First Impressions of Dizin
As my plane descended into Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport, the anticipation of exploring Iran’s winter wonderland, Dizin, filled my thoughts. Known for its breathtaking ski slopes, Dizin is a gem tucked away in the Alborz mountain range. The crisp, cool air and the dramatic peaks seen from the plane window hinted at the adventures awaiting me.
Iran, a country rich in history and culture, offered a stark contrast between its bustling capital and the tranquil, snowy slopes of Dizin. My journey began in Tehran, a city vibrant with life, where ancient traditions blend seamlessly with modernity. From Tehran, a scenic drive of about two hours took me to Dizin, ascending through winding mountain roads, offering glimpses of the majestic snow-covered peaks.

The drive itself was an experience, as I passed through picturesque villages and landscapes that seemed untouched by time. The contrast between the urban sprawl of Tehran and the serene mountains was striking. As we climbed higher, the air grew colder and the snow thicker. I attended a performance of traditional Persian music, where musicians played the tar, setar, and santur, creating melodies that echoed through the mountains. Food is an integral part of Iranian culture, and Dizin offered a variety of traditional dishes. I savored dishes like “Chelow kebab,” “Dizi,” and “Ash reshteh,” each bursting with flavors that told stories of the region’s rich culinary heritage.
